March Expense Totals (Belated! Sorry!)

march totals

Oops! Sorry it took me so long to get to March expense totals.

Each month I write a report of sorts, to show a bit of the bigger picture.  For a more detailed list of each spend, go to the stats page or click here.

I was really surprised when I ran the numbers for March, our first month in our favorite inexpensive continent, and discovered we weren’t managing to spend as little as I’d hoped.  Why?  What is costing so much in Asia?

It doesn’t take much investigation to see that “accommodations” is the category-culprit.  Because once again we are trying to complete the IHG Big Win promotion.  This is always the kind of promotion that feels really expensive until the points come in and we do a little math.  Drew analyzed our last Big Win promotion and concluded that we earned at a $.52 / point ratio which is not bad at all. 405,943 points from three accounts.  Still, I will be most satisfied with the Big Win if the next PointBreaks list is good.  We didn’t care for the last one as we were hoping to do the S.E. Asia thing and there weren’t any good S.E. Asia options.

As much as it makes me cringe, here are some totals for the month of March spanning 3 countries, USA, HongKong, and Indonesia.
